MEET CAPT JOHN
FROM IT TO THE MARSH
After more than 30 years in IT, the Marine Corps, DoD, and Oil & Gas, I traded screens and servers for marsh air, sunrises, and the freedom of the water.
For more than 20 years, I’ve spent my time off exploring the inshore marshes from Slidell to Delacroix to Hopedale — studying tides, weather, seasons, and the patterns that put fish in the boat. The same discipline, attention to detail, and problem-solving that shaped my military and professional career now go into every charter.
Whether you're chasing your first redfish or your next great catch, my goal is simple: give you an authentic day on the water and memories worth taking home.

We had an amazing time out on the water with Captain John this weekend! It was clear that safety was one of his top priorities but he also made sure we caught fish. His charter was top notch and we were definitely in good hands! We will definitely book with him again. That was one of the best experiences I’ve had in a long time! I’d give 10 stars if I could. Thanks so much for an incredible experience, Captain John!Posted on Google![]()

Capt. John picked my oldest son, Bridger, and me up at 6:00 a.m. on the dot from our camp on the Tangipahoa River. We headed out hoping to catch some reds, but the fish just weren’t there. John didn’t waste any time. He asked if we wanted to head over to Manchac and try our luck with some catfish. We agreed, and it didn’t take long before we were catching fish. John reminded Bridger to hold onto his pole tight—and good thing he did. About two minutes later, Bridger hooked into a BEAST! What we thought was a catfish turned out to be a 37-pound Jack Crevalle. John said it was the biggest fish that had ever been in his boat, and Bridger couldn’t stop smiling for weeks afterward. It was one of those days on the water that you don’t forget. Great captain, great fishing, and an even better memory with my son. We’ll definitely be going againPosted on Google![]()

Captain John Barnes runs a top-notch charter, and he proved that hard work and a good attitude pay off. Right from the start, Captain John was as flexible as could be with our arrangements, making the whole trip easy to plan. The fishing started out tough with several dry holes. Where other captains might have called it early, John never quit or lost his cool. He stayed pleasant, completely professional, and kept working hard until he put us right on the fish. Because of this, we finished the day with an ice chest packed with fish.If you want a captain who treats you right and won't throw in the towel, Look no further. We'll definitely be back.Posted on Google![]()

Great captain, beautiful boat. We had an amazing day on the water today and caught lots of fish. A little bit of everything which made it even more exciting. You never know what you're going to pull out of the water. Great guys to hire which equals a great time on the water! Thanks again!Posted on Google![]()

We had an outstanding experience with Drum Spot Charters—Captain John truly went above and beyond for our group of three. From the start, he put us right on the fish and kept us moving to multiple productive spots throughout the trip. Even though all three of us have plenty of fishing experience, sometimes you get a little rusty—and Captain John was right there to coach us up when needed. He paid attention, gave helpful tips, and made sure everyone stayed on track (some of us needed a little more help than others, lol). Overall, it was a top-notch trip. Great fishing, great guidance, and a great time all around. I can’t recommend Drum Spot Charters enough—if you’re thinking about booking, do it. Thanks again, Captain John. We’ll definitely be back.Posted on Google![]()
